Capay Valley Vineyards just might be one of the most unique experiences in Yolo County. This boutique winery is the definition of an estate winery. From growing and managing their own vineyards, owning the winemaking process, bottling on-site, and even producing their own sparkling wines, they do it all. Owners Tom and Pam are long-time Capay Valley residents and have worked hard to create their own oasis tucked into the valley’s rolling hills. When they purchased the property, over 40 years ago, the land surrounding their new home was planted to almonds, citrus, and grazing land. They now sustainably farm 25 acres of grapevines and produce an array of delicious Yolo County varietals. 

In recent years, the duo and their team has worked hard to perfect their two sparkling wines. Both wines are produced in the French Charmat method and feature varietals not typically found in a sparkling wine: Viognier and Tempranillo.  Q&A WITH CAPAY VALLEY VINEYARDS 

Q: How long have you been producing your estate-grown wines?

A: We have been growing grapes for 24 years, and now farm 25 acres of wine grapes with a focus on sustainably. We do not use a till, and utilize drip irrigation in our vineyards.

Q: What wine varieties do you specialize in?

A: We grow and produce Viognier, Tempranillo, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot. Viognier and Tempranillo were the first varieties planted and have since evolved into our favorite selections for sparkling wines. Our Sparkling Viognier and Sparkling Tempranillo, which features a rich, ruby color in the glass, are both unique and have become the most popular choices amongst our winery visitors.

Q: What makes Capay Valley Vineyards unique? 

A: We are truly an estate winery with the entire winemaking process, from vine to bottle, taking place on property. Guests get the chance to enjoy a wine-tasting in our working winery. We are also excited to release a new Syrah Port, arriving just in time for the holidays.
